LIT Run Safeguarding Policy

Meeting Outside the App (Find a Pal)

LIT Run is a community space for women, and gender‑diverse people. This policy sets out how we support members to stay safe when choosing to meet other LIT Run members in person through the Find a Pal feature. While meetings outside the app are arranged independently by members, LIT Run is committed to providing clear guidance, support, and channels to report concerns.

1. Our commitment to safety

  • LIT Run  is designed to be a safe, inclusive, and respectful space for women and gender‑diverse people.

  • We do not tolerate harassment, abuse, discrimination, or any behaviour that puts members at risk.

  • We provide safety guidance and reporting tools, but cannot control what happens once members meet offline.

  • Members are responsible for their own safety and decisions when arranging and attending in‑person meetups.

2. Before you meet: Recommended safety steps

We strongly encourage all members to follow these steps before meeting someone from LIT Run in person:

  • Get to know them in the app first

    • Use in‑app messaging for as long as you feel comfortable before sharing personal contact details.

    • Consider a video or voice call before meeting, if that feels right for you.

  • Tell someone you trust

    • Share the person’s LIT Run name/profile, where you’re meeting, and when you expect to be back.

    • Consider sharing your live location with a trusted friend during the meetup.

  • Meet in a public, well‑lit place

    • Choose busy locations such as cafés, parks, gyms, or community centres.

    • Avoid private homes, isolated areas, or unfamiliar locations for first meetings.

  • Arrange your own transport

    • Plan how you will get there and back independently.

    • Keep enough battery and data on your phone to call for help if needed.

  • Keep personal information private at first

    • You don’t need to share your home address, workplace, or financial details early on.

    • Share only what you’re comfortable with, at your own pace.

  • Trust your instincts

    • If something feels off before or during the meetup, you can end the conversation or leave at any time.

    • You do not owe anyone an explanation for prioritising your safety.

3. During and after the meetup

  • Stay aware of your surroundings

    • Keep your phone and belongings secure and within reach.

    • If you’re in a venue, consider using schemes like “Ask for Angela” where available.

  • Check in with a friend

    • Agree on a time for a friend to message or call you during or after the meetup.

    • Use a simple code word or message if you need help or want to leave.

  • After the meetup

    • If you had a positive experience, that’s great – continue at a pace that feels right.

    • If anything made you uncomfortable, you can block, report, or tell us about it in the app.

4. Red flags and concerning behaviour

Please be cautious if someone:

  • Pressures you to meet sooner than you’re ready, or to meet in private/isolated places.

  • Asks for money, gifts, financial details, or sensitive personal information.

  • Tries to move communication off the app very quickly or refuses video/voice contact.

  • Makes you feel uncomfortable, disrespected, or unsafe in any way.

  • Ignores your boundaries or consent.

If you notice any of these signs, you can:

  • Stop communicating with them.

  • Block and report their profile in the app.

  • Contact LIT Run support using the details below.

5. How LIT Run supports safeguarding

LIT will:

  • Provide in‑app safety guidance and this policy to all members using Find a Pal.

  • Offer clear, accessible ways to block and report other members.

  • Review reports seriously and take appropriate action, which may include:

    • Warning the member

    • Suspending or removing access to Find a Pal

    • Removing the member from LIT Run entirely

  • Cooperate with law enforcement and relevant authorities where there is a serious risk or legal requirement.

6. Reporting concerns or incidents

If something happens before, during, or after a meetup that worries or harms you:

  • In the app: use the “Report” function on the member’s profile or conversation.

  • By email: contact [safeguarding@litrun.org / your chosen contact].

  • In an emergency: call 999. For non‑emergencies, call 101 or contact your local police.

  • For support, you may also consider:

We will handle all reports with care, confidentiality, and in line with our safeguarding and data protection policies.

7. Data protection and privacy (UK GDPR)

  • Any information you share when reporting a concern is treated as sensitive personal data.

  • We only use it to:

    • Investigate the report

    • Keep our community safe

    • Meet our legal and safeguarding obligations

  • We do not share your details with other members or third parties unless required by law or to protect someone from serious harm.

8. Important note

This policy is guidance to help you stay safe; it does not create a legal duty of care beyond what is required by law. LIT Run cannot guarantee the behaviour of individual members outside the app, but we are committed to taking reports seriously and acting to protect our community.
